Andres “Savage” Cortes was introduced to the sport of boxing at four years old. He is guided by his brother older Luis who has trained the undefeated prospect his entire professional career. Cortes is a decorated amateur, who finished with an impressive record of 130 wins and 20 losses. After making his Mayweather Promotions debut in 2016, Cortes has been unstoppable in the ring and is confident he will stop his opponent well before 12 rounds.

Baja California, Mexico native, Sergio “Micky” Lopez made his professional debut on April 29, 2005. Thirty-three year old Lopez holds a 41 percent knockout rate, and recently faced a former Olympian and lightweight contender, both bouts resulted in a loss, however Lopez see’s the experience as having an edge on the up and coming prospect.

Here is what the fighters had to share ahead of their matchup:

On what they know about their opponent:

Cortes: “He has experience in the ring, but it’s not good experience. My amateur experience coupled with my professional experience makes me confident enough to step in the ring with him. I’m aware of people he’s fought. He hasn’t fought anyone impressive in the ring to me.”

Lopez: “I know he’s undefeated but can be defeated. He’s okay, but I’m stronger more experienced and tougher in the ring”

On training camp:

Cortes: “I’ve been working harder. My last fight I got greedy and I learned a lot of things, but I’m getting smarter with each fight and more experience in the ring. My nutrition is better, and my team is pushing me harder. I feel better. I see this fight as another fight, I stay prepared to go 12 rounds if I have to, but I want the knockout win.”

Lopez: “This is has been one my best training camps, thanks to Victor Flores, who has helped me out tremendously with his support and motivation.

On what the fans can expect:

Cortes: “A knockout. I’m not leaving that ring until I get the KO win.”

Lopez: “Expect a war! Two crazy Mexicans giving it all in the ring.”
