Jermell Charlo vs. Jorge Cota

Mandalay Bay Events Center, Las Vegas, Nevada

Former super welterweight world champion Jermell Charlo had anticipated this night would be all about him returning to championship glory. But it wasn’t to be. Charlo accomplished something just as sweet – a picture perfect knockout victory over dangerous veteran Jorge Cota in the main event of PBC on FOX Fight Night from Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas.

Like a home run hitter sitting on a 3-2 fastball, Charlo (32-1, 16 KOs) delivered a devastating one-two that came right down the middle, crashing flush into Cota’s face and sending him spiraling down and flat on his back on the apron of the ring. The end came at 2:17 of the third round as referee Jay Nady stood over the prone Cota (28-4, 25 KOs) and waved the fight off without picking up a count. Charlo’s victory sets up a rematch with WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Tony Harrison, who scored a unanimous decision over Charlo to take away his title on Dec. 22, 2018.

In the FOX televised co-feature, sensational super welterweight prospect Joey Spencer (8-0, 6 KOs) got a stern test from Akeem Black (5-3, 2 KOs), but still managed to win a six-round unanimous decision. In FOX televised opener former super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (19-1, 13) and Mexico’s Julio Ceja (32-4, 28 KOs) stood in the pocket and fought a close-quarters battle, neither giving an inch. Eventually, that strategy did not play well for Ceja. Rigondeaux, a former Cuban Olympian, ended matters at 2:59 of the eighth round with a powerful left hook that detonated on Ceja’s chin to score a TKO victory in the WBC super bantamweight title elimination match.

In the FOX televised prelims unbeaten lightweight Chris “Prime Time’’ Colbert (12-0, 4 KOs) used his blazing hand speed and dazzling footwork to befuddle Albert Mercado (16-3-1, 2 KOs) on the way to unanimous eight-round decision. All three judges scored it 80-72 for Colbert – a shutout. Welterweight prospect Jesus Alejandro Ramos (10-0, 9 KOs) kept his unblemished record intact with a four-round unanimous decision over Kevin Shacks (3-4-3, 3 KOs). All three judges scored the fight 40-36, giving the hard-hitting Ramos a clean sweep on the scorecards.

Sin City Showdown

Angelo Leo vs. Mark John Yap

Sam’s Town Live, Las Vegas, Nevada

The unbeaten Angelo “El Chinito” Leo (18-0, 8 KO’s) was victorious again after defeating veteran Mark John Yap of the Philippines at the Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall. The 25-year-old Leo was the more-effective fighter throughout the fight. Yap attempted to mount an offense, but Leo quickly put him on the defensive by throwing and landing two-three punch combinations. Scores were 99-91, 99-91, and 98-92 for Leo.

In the co-feature bout featuring welterweights, the undefeated Keith Hunter (11-0, 7 KOs) scored an impressive unanimous decision victory over gatekeeper Cameron Krael (16-14-3, 4 KOs). Hunter used his three-inch height advantage and reach to keep Krael at the end of his punches. Hunter was deliberate with his combinations and kept his hands moving during the final round. Scores were 98-92, 98-92, and 97-93 for Hunter. Junior lightweight prospect and Las Vegas resident Andres Cortes knocked out veteran Sergio Lopez (22-15-1, 15 KO’s) of Mexico in the third round. Cortes (12-0, 7 KOs) broke Lopez down in each round, mixing his attack and landing combinations. Cortes stunned Lopez with a barrage of punches late in round, following up and landing at will before Lopez took a knee. Referee Kenny Bayless counted Lopez out at 2:53. Super middleweight Kevin Newman II (10-1-1, 6 KOs) of Las Vegas stopped Ramon Aguinaga (13-3, 9 KOs) in round four. Newman dropped Aguiniga with a right uppercut to the chin about a minute into round four. Aguinaga beat the count, but was dropped again. Referee Robert Byrd administered an eight-count, but waved the fight off at 1:19. In the opening bout, junior welterweight prospect Maurice Lee (11-1-2, 5 KOs) defeated Jonathan Steele (9-4-1, 6 KOs) of Duncansville, Texas by majority decision.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman

MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada

Boxing’s only eight-division world champion, Senator Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao dropped Keith “One Time” Thurman in round one and won a close split decision to earn a welterweight world title in the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions on FOX Sports Pay-Per-View event Saturday night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The sell-out crowd of 14,356 got treated to great action from the start, as an exciting first round was capped off by Pacquiao dropping Thurman for the first time in his career with a straight right hand late in the round. Thurman made it into the second round but continued to have trouble with Pacquiao’s right hand, as the future Hall of Famer threw it successfully as a jab and a power punch throughout the fight. Thurman adjusted in the middle rounds and began to try to smother Pacquiao and walk him down, having success when he was able to get his combinations off before his opponent. In round 10, Pacquiao’s landed a strong left hook to the body that clearly hurt Thurman and forced him to spend much of the remainder of the round backpedaling. The CompuBox scores were indicative of the close nature of the fight, with Thurman out landing Pacquiao 210 to 195, while Pacquiao was busier throwing 686 punches to 571 from Thurman. After 12 rounds, the judges reached a split decision, with one judge scoring the fight 114-113 for Thurman, overruled by two judges scoring it 115-112 for Pacquiao, who captured the WBA Welterweight World Championship at 40-years-old.

Gervonta Davis vs. Ricardo Nunez

Royal Farms Arena, Baltimore, Maryland

Gervonta Davis returned to Baltimore in empathic fashion, defending his WBA Super Featherweight World Championship with a second-round technical knockout of mandatory challenger Ricardo Núñez Saturday on SHOWTIME from a sold-out Royal Farms Arena. Fighting for the first time at home as a world champion, and in the first world title fight in Baltimore in nearly 50 years, Davis again proved why he’s one of boxing’s brightest young stars.  After a first round where he peppered Núñez to the body, the youngest reigning America world champion landed a series of brutal left hooks flush to Núñez’s face that sent the challenger stumbling into the ropes in the second.  With Núñez (21-3, 19 KOs) leaning against the ropes and unable to defend himself, referee Harvey Dock stepped in to stop the contest at 1:33.

The resounding knockout was Davis’ 21st knockout in 22 professional fights, and perhaps his sweetest.  It occurred in front of 14,686 fans in the first hometown title defense for a Baltimore native in 79 years.

In the televised co-feature, former two-division world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa turned back the clock with a sensational second round knockout of Roman “Rocky” Martinez. The former Cuban Olympic Gold Medalist displayed the brilliant hand and foot speed that has been the hallmark of his career, and paired it with tremendous combo shots.  He came forward from the opening bell, pressing the action against Martinez, who is usually known as the aggressor. In the opening bout of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, lightweight contender Ladarius Miller narrowly edged former world champion Jezreel Corrales with a split decision scored 96-93 (Corrales), 96-93 (Miller) and 95-94 (Miller). For Miller (20-1, 6 KOs), his 11th consecutive victory inched him closer to a world title shot in the lightweight division.

In streaming action on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING COUNTDOWN, undefeated welterweight and Baltimore native Malik Hawkins (16-0, 9 KOs) defeated Jonathan Steele (9-5-1, 6 KOs) via eight-round unanimous decision scored (78-74, 79-73 twice).  Dylan Price (9-0, 6 KOs) kept his undefeated record in tact with an eight-round unanimous decision (78-74, 79-73 twice) over Samuel Gutierrez (16-24-6, 6 KOs).  And in the opening bout of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING COUNTDOWN, super lightweight Kareem Martin (13-2-1, 4 KOs) defeated Luis Avila (8-14-3, 5 KOs) via TKO after referee Harvey Dock stopped the bout at the end of the third round.

The NFL Needs To Shorten the Preseason, And More Takeaways

The NFL needs to cut down the number of preseason games. If you’re looking for a reason as to why, check out the participation of the first full week of exhibition matchups. 19 starting quarterbacks sat out their preseason openers. The ones who did play made quick exits. It’s clear something has to give. The problem is finding a way to replace the revenue from preseason games. It seems unlikely the owners will be able to talk the players’ union into swapping preseason games for more regular season games in the next collective bargaining agreement, but most everyone seems to agree the preseason is simply too long, including Commissioner Roger Goodell.

2019 NFL Rule Changes: Pass Interference, Blindside Blocks among Major Shifts and Revisions

As is the case every season, fans are surely going to be seeing a slightly different game than they did a year ago. That’s because the NFL has instituted several rule changes and told officials to be on the lookout for several points of emphasis during the coming season. For example, the new rules regarding the review of pass interference calls were well-publicized throughout the offseason, but others may not be quite as familiar to you. According to NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent, rule changes for this year cover the following areas of play, as well as some others: blindside blocks, leapers on point-after tries and field goals, kickoffs and instant replay on offensive and defensive pass interference.

‘Old’ Pitchers Are a Dominant Force in 2019

One of the most exciting aspects of baseball is the explosion of young, endlessly exciting hitters who have taken over the game over the last few years. But when you look at the pitching leaderboard, you discover something fascinating: If this is the era of the young phenom hitter, it’s even more the era of the old, wily veteran pitcher. Of the top 10 pitchers in ERA this season, a stunning seven are over the age of 30 and if you go down to the top 12, there are nine.

Player Development and What the Next Era of MLS Looks Like

We are in the middle of an inflection point in league history. And it’s the next wave of Major League Soccer. You have to develop and reap your investments, not because it’s fun and will get you some nice headlines, but because it’s imperative to compete in the long term. The path some clubs will choose to take is not to invest a few million on a single player, but push that money towards a robust academy system. Then you have the potential to get multiple players with the same bet. Once you get those fields turning and you can bring in money on homegrown talent, there’s no limit to what you can invest. Now the clubs that develop talent will set the next wave. It’s going to be one of the defining traits of MLS over the rest of this season, and every season moving forward.

PLAYER OF THE QUARTER: BRYCE HARPER

Dubbed the “Lebron James of baseball,” Bryce Harper made a decision that would impact the remainder of his life at the age of 16. He dropped out of high school after just two years of attending classes at Las Vegas High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He earned his GED in 2009 which made him eligible to be a part of 2010 amateur draft to initiate his professional career. Bryce who had been playing baseball since his childhood,  was ejected from the National Junior College World Series after a called third strike. It was his second ejection and had resulted in a two-game suspension. With the suspension, his amateur career ended and the star was drafted No.1 by the Washington Nationals in 2010 MLB Drafts. The well-known American baseball right-fielder proved his worth as an efficient player as he was ranked as a top-3 prospect. He also was selected for the 2012 All-Star Game, which made him the youngest position player to have ever been selected. That same year, he was awarded the ‘NL Rookie of the Year’. Over the course of his illustrious career, he’s won other awards such as the ‘NL Hank Aaron Award’ and the ‘Silver Slugger Award’.  But more recently the baseball phenom made headlines when he signed a $330 million, 13-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, according to the Associated Press (AP). With more great seasons ahead, MLB The Show 19 featured him on the cover of this year’s video game, which was released on March 26th.

“I’d rather be a good person off the field than a good baseball player on the field”- Bryce Harper.

FEATURED FIGHTER: ANDRES CORTES

Andres “Savage” Cortes continues to impress! We recently caught up with Andres to discuss his recent appearance on Shobox: The New Generation, his goals for the near future, and how he spends his time outside of the ring. Learn more about Andres Cortes, the hungry, diligent, and dedicated undefeated lightweight prospect below.

Q: What sparked your love for boxing?

A: As a young kid, I needed guidance and something to help me stay out of trouble. Boxing did that; it kept me out of the streets so I could make something of myself.

Q: How well does your in-ring alias “Savage” describe you?

A: Knowing myself as well as I do, I thought the alias “Savage” was a perfect fit in and out the ring. Savage is the one word that truly describes me, and I couldn’t have chosen a better nickname.

Q: What does a typical training day for Andres Cortes look like?

A: I start my day off with an early morning run or some other activity to wake myself up. I then sharpen my skills in the boxing gym and lift weights at night to clear my mind. Rest is very important; I also ensure that I get a good night’s sleep.

Q: What are your goals for the remainder of the year?

A: Honestly, I’m just trying to stay busy. I would like to make a name for myself, get ranked in the top 10 or 15 by a few sanctioning bodies, and start taking over.

Q: What keeps you calm and focused ahead of fight night?

A: All the hard work I’ve put in, the sacrifices I’ve made through the years, and the thought of my opponent trying to take everything  I’ve worked so hard for is what keeps me calm and focused ahead of fight night.

Q: You recently experienced a career first fighting on Shobox: The New Generation. Can you describe what this opportunity meant to you?

A: Fighting on Shobox: The New Generation was something that I dreamed of as a kid. It was an amazing experience to fight on a show that I grew up watching.  I didn’t perform my best, but I’ve learned from my mistakes and will continue to grow as a fighter. I am truly thankful for the opportunity.

Q: If you could name one fight (past or present) or fighter (current or retired) that has inspired you, what fight, or fighter would you choose?

A: There’s a lot of fighters and fights that have inspired me, but the one that impacted me the most is the Antonio DeMarco vs. Jorge Linares fight. DeMarco hails from Sinaloa, Mexico and had nothing to lose but a fortune to gain. Antonio DeMarco managed a great comeback after losing the early rounds of the fight.  That win was something special and it inspired me to take my love for the sport to the next level.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve received by the President or CEO of Mayweather Promotions regarding your career?

A: Overall, the best advice I’ve received has been encouragement regarding the direction of my career. Floyd Mayweather and Leonard Ellerbe have assured me that together, we’re going to make it and a title shot is in the near future. Our vision is that same; knowing that we’re on one accord is all I want to hear.

Q: What words of advice would you share with someone attempting to travel the same career path?

A: Stay focused and motivated. In this sport, things can get tough, but the key is to stay positive and look ahead to the future. Try not to focus on the negative; bad things happen, but don’t worry, you’ll make something out of nothing.

Q: When you’re not training or in the gym, what is your ‘go-to’ restaurant, entertainment, and relaxation spot in Vegas?

A: I spend most of my time in the gym or working at the family business Cortes Motors. But when I do get a little free time, I like to go to my favorite restaurant Buffalo Wild Wings.

Q: What sports do you enjoy playing or watching outside of boxing?

A: I love watching Boxing and MMA!

FEATURED STAFF: ALVITA HEARSLEY

This quarter’s featured staff member is Alvita Hearsley, who joined the Mayweather Promotions staff in 2014 as an Operations Assistant. Alvita took notice of Mayweather Promotions several years earlier when she began volunteering for various events hosted by the company throughout the community.  It was that sense of community involvement that made Alvita inquire about additional roles at Mayweather Promotions.  Read more about Alvita, her role within the company, and what she enjoys most about being part of the Mayweather Promotions team.

Q: What is your role at Mayweather Promotions? How did you get started and how long have you been with the company?

A: My role at Mayweather Promotions is Operations Assistant and consists of many duties including packaging and fulfillment of merchandise orders, answering incoming office calls and emails, execution and planning of MP and The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation (TFMJF) events, and fighter check-in and merchandise sales during fight week.

I’ve been employed at Mayweather Promotions for 5 years, but my initial involvement with the company stemmed from my volunteering at various community events that MP hosted for in the six years leading up to my employment. I’ve always enjoyed how involved we are in the community, so I never hesitated to sign up as a volunteer for community feedings, annual Back-2-School drives, Titans of the Trade: Breakfast of Champions, and other events.

Q: What makes you proud to be part of the Mayweather Promotions team?

A: I am proud to be part of the Mayweather Promotions team because I know that through the promotion of our fighters, social events, and involvement in the community through TFMJF has brought us national and international recognition as a pillar in the sport of boxing and the Las Vegas community. I know that people admire the accomplishments of Mayweather Promotions and the way we operate, and I know that we will continue to set a precedent through promotions and non-profit events.

Q: What do you find to be the biggest challenge and your biggest motivation in your career?

A: The biggest challenge I’ve had in my career is learning about the sport of boxing. I used to watch boxing with my father as a little girl but working in the sport is much more complex. Learning the terminology proved difficult, but I started reading more about the sport and to overcome my struggles. The biggest motivation in my career is knowing that I have the ability to learn something new every day. Repetition is boring and can be a drag, especially when you’re trying to stay motivated. I like change and I’m grateful for the opportunity to do something different and learn something new daily.

Q: At a fast-paced company like MP, you are often on the go and multitasking. Are there any techniques or exercises (both physical and mental) that you perform to keep sharp?

A: Getting rest is essential. I need at least 7 hours of sleep minimum; working 10-12hr days when we have events is difficult if you don’t get adequate rest.  Plus, sleep helps to keep your mind sharp. Another way I stay mentally sharp is reading often. I enjoy reading the promotional press releases and boxing news to keep my brain stimulated while also educating myself on what MP may currently be involved in.

Q: Complete the sentence. The first thing I do when I get off work is…

A: Head home to catch up on the news preferably CNN or MSNBC, and sometimes I go to the grocery store.

Q: Fight week is usually a combination of excitement and chaos, especially when promoting multiple events at once. What keeps you calm and focused?

A: The fighters have a way of keeping me calm and focused. I know that we are there to support them and completing the tasks I’ve been assigned is my way of offering support. During fight week, I turn all my attention to the tasks that I’ve been assigned, keep them at the forefront of my mind, and try to block out anything that would prevent me from remaining calm while completing them.

Q: What is the best MP fight or fight card that you’ve experienced since joining the team?

A: Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is the best fight card that I’ve experienced since joining the team. It was a busy and hectic week, but we had so much fun. Not only were the fights entertaining, but the Southern University band also came for the ring walk and their performance was impressive.

Q: What do you envision for the future of Mayweather Promotions, and how do you fit in the picture?

A: Mayweather Promotions will continue expanding their footprint across the sports and entertainment industry. We’ve recently branched out into promoting Premier Boxing Champions fights and fighters that aren’t under the Mayweather Promotions banner, which has further increased our presence in the sports community, and I foresee that MP will continue doing so. As for me, I enjoy my current role at MP and hope to continue as the Operations Assistant. The position allows me to meet new fight fans and customers which I truly enjoy; they provide a fresh perspective and are a joy to talk to and listen to.

Q: What is the most important thing you’ve learned since working at MP?

A: The most important thing I’ve learning since I started working at MP is listening. It’s imperative to listen to your supervisors and coworkers. Listening helps provide the sense of direction needed to get your various tasks completed and can also lead to a mastermind of great ideas from your teammates. Another thing I’ve learned is the importance of a positive attitude. Avoid any negativity and stay positive. Things may not always go as planned but having a negative attitude won’t make things better.

Q: What is your ‘go-to’ restaurant, entertainment, and relaxation spots in Vegas?

A: I consider myself a restaurant connoisseur, but my favorite would be Bone Fish Grill. I also love jazz. My ideal night out would involve a combination of music, great food, and good conversations with family and friends.

                Esmeralda Navarro

Esmeralda Navarro, 29, was born and raised in Southern California and proudly continues to call it her home. She is the middle child with two siblings and has a large extended family of Mexican descent. As a wife and mother of two toddlers she does not have much downtime to spare, however you can count on seeing her at the gym early every morning. She is a diehard Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers fan but admits Saturday nights are reserved for boxing. As a matter of fact, Esmeralda’s passion for boxing began as a child. Growing up in a community saturated with boxing fans and seeing her family gather to watch various fights stimulated her love for the sport and none other than “The Best Ever”, Floyd Mayweather. We’ve asked Esmeralda a variety of questions about TBE; here’s what she had to say.

In what ways do you or have you supported Floyd Mayweather or other Mayweather Promotions fighters?

I have supported Floyd Mayweather and other Mayweather Promotions (MP) fighters over the years by attending various fights and events hosted by MP, predominantly events held in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. I also purchase clothing and gear from the TMT and MP collections for myself and family members who are fans of the sport. Lastly, I also show support when I find myself in a tactful debate with other fans of the sport. My love and knowledge for the sport allows me to skillfully converse with naysayers, simply rationalizing with fact why Floyd is one of the best athletes of all time.

What was the first Floyd Mayweather fight you watched?

The first Floyd Mayweather fight I recall watching was his fight against Oscar de la Hoya in 2007.

Which fight was your favorite Floyd Mayweather fight?

My favorite Floyd Mayweather fight must be his 2017 fight against MMA star Conor McGregor. In this fight we saw Floyd transform from Money Mayweather into Pretty Boy Floyd again—it was great to see him revert to his old style of fighting, from the best defense in the game to a forward coming aggressor.

Have you seen a Floyd Mayweather fight live? If so, how was that experience.

Unfortunately, I never had the means to attend an actual Floyd Mayweather fight, but I have had the pleasure of attending media day, press tours, and charity events.

If you could meet Floyd Mayweather, what would you ask him?

If I could meet Floyd Mayweather, I would ask him what is left on his bucket list. He accomplished so much at such an early age, I am curious to know what else he has in mind both personally and professionally for the future.

What is it about Floyd Mayweather’s performance inside and/or outside the ring that made you a big fan?

I appreciate Floyd’s philosophy when he says, “… the object of the sport is to hit and not get hit.” More fighters need to learn from this; it’s all in the science of the defense and Floyd has the best in the game. I also believe his ability to adjust to any other fighter’s style makes him an exceptional fighter, as he can quickly discern and breakdown his opponent. Let’s face it, he has faced good opponents, but each time he has walked away victorious making the win look easy.

I also like that he is his own cheerleader, he remains focused, sharp, and determined to win despite the growing number of critics. Floyd Mayweather sells an unmatched work ethic, unparalleled dedication, and an unwavering will to be the best. Let’s not forget to mention his handling of the media is meticulously strategized and mapped out to mirror a specific agenda, always three steps ahead of others. In the end, it all works in his favor, further solidifying his bullet-proof business model.

Mayweather approaches boxing as an entertainment enterprise, fueled by conflict, excitement and the desire of many to see a champion fall from grace. Knowing this, he has embraced the bad boy persona artfully, making it his mission to eliminate the line between boxing and entertainment, and making every experience in his career a combination of the two. Truly genius!

Finish this sentence: I am the best Floyd Mayweather fan because…

I am the best Floyd Mayweather fan because I love boxing and Floyd is boxing. Mayweather and boxing are synonymous, one in the same.

In your opinion, how has Floyd Mayweather positively impacted the sport of boxing?

Floyd Mayweather has positively impacted the sport of boxing in many ways. For starters, athletes make more money now because of his fight for the pay that he deserved by putting his life on the line. This is an example Floyd has set for other fighters to follow. Fighters that have come after Floyd have become businessmen thanks to his blueprint. Similarly, Floyd took the seat on the throne of boxing promoters (i.e. negotiating his own deals), brilliantly mastering the art of entertainment, and merging pop culture with the sport of boxing. When it comes to the art of boxing, Floyd perfected the “shoulder roll” defense technique. For those that can follow in his footsteps and mimic such a defensive strategy, they are able to successfully minimize the impact of punches received to the head and retire healthier state.

If you could spend the day with him, what would your day consist of?

If I had the opportunity to spend a day with Floyd Mayweather, our day would consist of an early morning run followed by a training session. I would love to see him in his natural element doing what he does best, so I can shadow him and learn as much as possible. We would then attend a Lakers game together, enjoying a good game of basketball in downtown L.A.!

Is there any positive advice you’d give to Floyd Mayweather?

If it is not broken, do not fix it. You’re the best, just continue to be you.

                              Nicky Carali

Nicky Carali is an event planner from Canada who loves boxing. She has worked for Lennox Lewis & Les Woods company,  Global Legacy Boxing, and has been a volunteer with the League of Champions boxing camp, providing youth all over the world with resources and boxing skills that will have a tremendous impact on their lives. It is through Nicky’s consistent work in and love of the sport that made Andrew Tabiti catch her eye; read  below for more.

In what ways do you or have you supported Andrew Tabiti or other Mayweather Promotions fighters?

Not only have I had the pleasure of watching Andrew Tabiti fight live, I also had the opportunity to go behind the scenes with the Mayweather Promotions team during Andrew’s recent fight in Latvia.

What was the first Andrew Tabiti fight you watched?

I’ve had my eye on Andrew Tabiti since his pro debut in 2014 against Andrew Howk.

Which fight was your favorite Andrew Tabiti fight?

My favorite Andrew Tabiti fight was his last fight against Yuniel Dorticos in Riga Latvia as part of the World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight tournament. The outcome was not favorable, but the fight was my favorite because it truly showcased Andrew’s determination and hard work. His attitude after the fight was also admirable as he thanked his entire team for their hard work and support, and also congratulated Yuniel Dorticos on his win.

What was the experience like to see Andre fight live?

I did have the opportunity to see Andrew fight live and it was an incredible experience! Andrew not only puts on a great fight, but he also brings an energy to the room like no other. His fans adore him because he takes the time to engage with them and answer as many whatever questions they ask.

If you could meet Andrew Tabiti again, what would you ask him?

I did have the opportunity to meet Andrew but there was one question I would still ask. I would like to know what helped him push through the fractured ankle injury he obtained in the first round of his recent matchup with Yuniel Dorticos.

What is it about Andrew Tabiti’s performance inside and/or outside the ring that made you a big fan?

Andrew Tabiti is an exceptional fighter. I like that Andrew very humble, interacts with his fans, and has a very positive energy. He’s also entertaining in the ring!

Finish this sentence: I am the best Andrew Tabiti fan because…

I flew to Riga Latvia to be a part of Andrew’s support team and watch him fight live.

In your opinion, how has Andrew Tabiti positively impacted the sport of boxing?

Andrew’s presence and personality is humbling but also electrifying. It’s nice to see a boxer/public figure who can capture the fans/audience without putting on a front.

If you could spend the day with him, what would your day consist of?

If I could spend the entire day with Andrew, I’d ask a lot of questions about his mental and physical preparation ahead of a fight. I would also love for him to speak to a group of youth about the importance of staying focused and humble, and working hard to achieve their goals.

Is there any positive advice you’d give to Andrew Tabiti going into his next fight?

I believe that Andrew may be hard on himself after experiencing his first loss. I would tell him to learn from his mistakes and listen to those that want to see him succeed. Andrew Tabiti is meant to do great things and I can’t wait to see him fight again soon.
