MONEY MOVES

On the eve of 2018, all-time boxing great Floyd Mayweather finessed Tenshin Nasukawa for 139 seconds in a boxing exhibition just north of Tokyo, Japan. “It was all about the entertainment. We had fun”, said Mayweather in a post-fight interview after making quick work of Nasukawa, which also net him a grand total of 9 million dollars, or $65,000 per second.  The concept of drawing fans into the sport and having fun in the ring while cashing out caught the attention of boxing promoters, boxing enthusiasts, and social media influencers alike. Since then, numerous exhibitions have followed suit, but no one can beat the master at his own game. On June 6, 2021, Floyd Mayweather took the boxing scene by storm with his highly anticipated Showtime PPV exhibition match with social media sensation Logan Paul. Mayweather vs. Paul was not only the biggest event of the year, but also the biggest crossover event in history. The eight round exhibition helped to energize the sport of boxing by introducing the sweet science to a larger, younger fan base and resulted in a highly lucrative payday for Mayweather, a trailblazer that understands “…kids can’t eat legacy, they eat off the currency…”

For decades, Floyd Mayweather dedicated his life to his illustrious boxing career, supported by his passion for the sport, health, and fitness. In 2018, Floyd Mayweather unveiled Mayweather Boxing & Fitness (Mayweather Fit), an unmatched global fitness venture featuring physical gyms, a mobile app and virtual reality experience. The most exciting fitness franchise to-date is a testament to the impactful health and wellness experiences Mayweather learned over decades of hard work and dedication to boxing. Mayweather Boxing + Fitness provides next-level fitness to all, attacking the disparity of proper nutrition and access to fitness head on, understanding the importance of a wholesome community being built on a solid foundation. Business continues to boom despite the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown, with revenue doubling yearly and classes booked to capacity despite restrictions in some gyms due to local laws.  Since the flagship gym opened in southern California, 39 additional franchises have opened their doors and more than 100 are currently in development, including the first international location in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Floyd Mayweather’s eye for innovation combined with his love for the “City of Dreams” are just two reasons why getting involved with the SUMMIT at One Vanderbilt was an ingenious move. A new reality awaits at SUMMIT, a sky-high attraction offering residents and tourists of New York City a challenging, inspiring, and thrilling experience that bridges mind-blowing art, heart-racing views, and delicious food and refreshments as one. The SUMMIT is a global cultural experience that allows its guests to dream, rejuvenate their love for the beauty of NYC, and immerse themselves in their imagination as they advance through three levels of  unparalleled multisensory attractions.

Floyd Mayweather continues to make footprints across the globe through his latest business investments in sports and entertainment and jaw-dropping voyages on land and around the seven seas.  Every year Floyd “Money” Mayweather continues to make moves that not only impress, but also inspire us to strive for success. 2022 is just around the corner. If you haven’t already, buckle up because Floyd is just getting into gear! We don’t know his next move but we can predict that it will always be greater than his last.

EVENTS NOT TO BE MISSED:

The sports and entertainment world is back on track with full schedules of events to enjoy this fall and winter!

SPORTS

Baseball:

The Atlanta Braves won the World Series for the first time since 1995. They defeated the Houston Astros in six games. Fun fact, both teams scored exactly 20 runs over the course of the series, and four games were decided by a 4 run (or more) margin. Hence in retrospect Games 3 and 4 were pivotal, with the Braves winning by just 2 runs and 1 run, respectively.

Football:

Football is back in full swing this fall, on both college and professional levels.

Will defending Super Bowl LV champion Tampa Bay hold on to the NFC South and advance to the postseason once again? The NFL Conference Divisions are starting to shake out, but it’s still early, and we hope there’s still hope for your team! The Super Bowl will be held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on February 13.

On the college side, we’re starting to see who is in the running for the College Football National Championship tournament. In November, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee is releasing five weeks of interim rankings that could put teams like Georgia, Alabama, Oregon and Ohio State in pole position before Selection Day on December 5. The championship game will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 10, 2022.

Basketball:

The NBA regular season is underway, and it almost feels like non-stop basketball after the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The league and players’ association have agreed to extend the roster flexibility rules that were added last year to address the pandemic challenges, and we hope to see everyone back in action. The playoffs will start on April 16, 2022, followed by the NBA Finals on June 2, 2022 and the draft on June 23, 2022.

Meanwhile, the WNBA wrapped up its season with an exciting Finals series in which the Chicago Sky became WNBA Champions for the first time ever. They defeated the Phoenix Mercury in Game 4 in a come-back victory. Notably, the WNBA celebrated its landmark 25th season this year, with Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi being voted by fans as the league’s greatest of all time (GOAT). The Connecticut Sun’s Jonquel Jones was named the league’s  2021 Most Valuable Player.
